On Wednesday 16th of September of I was invited
by Zomato to attend a Foodie event at Toni’s Pizza in Menlyn. The first Toni’s
immerged in a converted house in Rietfontein. It was here that Angelo had his
first Toni’s experience and he was hooked. So much so that he became the first
franchisee opening Toni’s Pizza Menlo Park about 4 years ago. There are now 4
franchises both in Pretoria and Johannesburg and it’s still growing.
Toni’s Pizza Menlo Park in the Greenlyn Village Centre can
now accommodate a little over 300 people, they have two play areas and also
offer other activities for the kids like sand art. They are a popular venue for
birthday parties and anniversaries. Toni’s is a real family restaurant. It also
have a take-away section which is now open for those on the go.
When I arrived I was so taken with the welcoming atmosphere
and exceptional service. As you enter every single waiter who passes you greets
you, I felt like a celebrity. I was then instantly shown to our table and given
a refreshing drink called “summer in a Holiday Glass”. That is a white Rum
based cocktail with a citrusy twist, topped off with lemonade and garnished
with strawberries, mint leaves and a slice of lemon. I promise you that it’s
just as delicious as it sounds.
The different combinations of food and drinks at this
restaurant is found nowhere else. Everything is so unique and so tasty. The
combinations are so unusual yet so tasty. I found myself eating a pizza with
butternut, feta and pumpkin seeds and it actually tasted divine….lol. My
favourite pasta was the Chorizo which has cream, chorizo, cherry tomatoes,
garlic, chilli, lemon zest, chives and rocket. The texture and creaminess of
this pasta contrasting with a zest of chilli is second to none. It’s something
like Butter chicken meets Alfredo. Absolutely delightful.
Another one of my firm favourites was the Cookie Monster,
which is Oreo cookies, Frangelico and Vanilla Ice cream. You just feel so grown
up and less guilty eating it because of the Frangelico. The taste is amazing.
And lastly if you do still have space for dessert….I would
strongly recommend the Chocolate Brownie. Hard on the outside, soft and melting
chocolate in the inside. You can’t go wrong.
This was by far the most fun I have ever had at a Foodie
event. The food was excellent, the service amazing and the company fantastic. I
will definitely be a regular at Toni’s….in fact I am planning a trip this long
weekend.
Hope to see you there!
