Last night I was invited by Zomato to my first Foodie Meetup at the D'çadence Restaurant in Moreleta Park, Pretoria. When I received the invite, I was like WTF??? What is a Foodie event and what are we doing there? Well let me explain the concept.
Zomato is an app which you can download on your phone. From the app you can find all the best places to eat in your area, with pictures of the places and its food, reviews if there is someone who has been there already and you follow other people, like you follow people on IG or FB. Its basically the same concept with food.
The really nice thing about the app is that the pictures and the locator makes it really easy to use. It also has different categories of restaurants depending on your mood. You have drinks and nightlife, luxury dinning, breakfast, lunch etc.. So you tell the app exactly what you feeling for and it finds you a place.
But it doesn't stop there.
The reviews which you write on the app are read by the restaurants and if you experience wasn't a pleasant one, they will get in touch with you on how they can do better. Isn't that just awesome. How many times did you have a bad experience at a restaurant and wished you could do something constructive about it? Now you can.
Back to my Foodie Event.
When we arrived we were greeted at the door by the friendliest staff and seated in a separate room. The restaurant is divided into two sections. One section looks like a pub with wooden tables and chairs, big screen flat screens and loud music, and obviously a huge bar in the corner. I am sure this place is rocking every weekend. The atmosphere is just amazing and the crowd very laid back and chilled. Then the room where we were in had fresh linen on the tables, cushioned chairs and silver cutlery laid out with balls of candle light. The music was soft and delightful and ranged from Gypsy Kings to something a bit older. This was definitely the fine dinning area. The dichotomy of the two rooms were very apparent but it worked.
After a brief history of the place we placed our order and was served our starters in a matter of 15 minutes. I ordered stuffed black mushrooms with feta and spinach and grated cheese on the top. It was delicious although the presentation was not too good. For the main course I ordered the lamb shank with mash potatoes. I was not disappointed. Not by the taste nor by the presentation. Both were amazing. And then we had load shedding and ever so quickly our waiters bounced out of nowhere with candles and to make sure we okay.
How would I rate this Restaurant?
I had a terrific experience and for me it checks all the boxes
1. Friendly staff
2. You get exactly what you ordered (you wont believe how many restaurants get this wrong)
3. Reasonably priced
4. The food was served hot (This is also a huge fail in restaurants)
5. The atmosphere was good.
So overall I would give it a 9 out of 10. I will certainly recommend this restaurant and I will go back.
