I know its been ages since I've posted something and I apologise to those that take the time to check in everyday.
My move to Sandton has been hectic to put it quite mildly. The traffic is horrid. I leave home when its dark and arrive back home when its dark as well. I feel like a vampire without the benefits of not ageing, super speed and heightened senses. I think I watch too much Vampire Diaries....
On the flip side I work opposite (I kid you not) Sandton City. One of my favourite places in Johannesburg. So my newest hangout has been Zara. I am loving their clothes. Not to mention their range of clothes for kiddies. OMG!! Sandton is also the home to a lot of factory shops like Forever New, Europa Art, Nike, Puma, Guess, Bogart and you then there is the linen shop, Glodina.
So as you can tell my lunch breaks have been hectic! Trying to take it all in and almost three months later I am still not bored.
Also I must say that the atmosphere in Sandton is very different. People are always in a rush and there's never time for a smile or a hello. People dress up. That's another thing that I've noticed. Here its trendy and not as casual as Pretoria. The people visibly reveal that they are gainfully employed and to what degree. The clothes are very chic, well fitted and classy. And its easy to read people by the way the dress, and these people want to be taken seriously.
I have also altered my style a bit to more corporate and less fun. Although I can never do an entire week of slim fit and boring...lol. But I don't believe in trying to conform to the precedent of society. I believe in staying true to yourself. But the flip side is people don't take you seriously when you don't look serious, and that's where it gets complicated for me. So what I do is when I know I am not seeing any clients and I don't have any meetings. I wear my bubble skirt just to be me, just so I know I haven't yet lost my humanity!!
Todays outfit I decided on a beige tunic with a white shirt underneath. This is such a classic look and its worn to death in Sandton. But I decided to spice it up with a scarf around my neck, and you wouldn't believe the difference. It goes from drab to fab instantly. Its just amazing what a scarf can do to an outfit. and its the same for men-just think of Lucious Lyon, his scarf with his 3 piece suit-amazing. So this winter I'm going to be rocking my scarves-Not because its single-digit temperatures, but because I am going to rock winter.
