Contouring and Highlighting

Like I said in my previous make-up review post-I am no genius with make-up at all. But I recently discovered the simple art of Contouring and highlighting, which I thought I would never be able to do in a million years.

Contouring and highlighting first caught my fancy when I saw these before and after pictures of Nigerian ladies who are transformed from drab to fab with make-up. I was always under the impression that make-up can only do so much to enhance your appearance but I was mistaken. You can look like Jenny from the Block if you wanted to with good products and fantastic contouring.

Today I'm just going to out line the basics for you, as best as I can, but if you want some of the "heavy" stuff-just mail me and I'll let you know where to find it.

Highlighting and Contouring goes together to highlight your features to give you an appearance of high cheek bones, a small nose and a slim face. It makes your face look well proportioned. The proper way to do what I am showing you is with a foundation and then blend the two at the end. What I do is a short-cut , which gives me the same result in 2 minutes. So beauticians please do not be offended, this is just my own version Angel.2.0

So first things first.

1.You need good products.
You need a product that is going to stay on your face the entire time, especially if you are highlighting You don't want to loose the look half-way through the party. So you need a quality brand of high lighters. Most reputable brands have them available. The two brands which I use is the Kardashian Highlighter and the Avon Hollywood one. The Kardashian one I had to have...look at Kim K-case in point. I don't need to elaborate.
The Avon one has a bit of shimmer to it so its great for nights out.

You will also need a bronzer for your cheeks. My favourite brand of bronzer is MAC. I love it cause its just the perfect shade of bronze. Don't use something too dark.

2. Once your powder or foundation has been applied to your face and your face is now a canvas. Suck in your cheeks and apply a bronzer to both your cheeks in a straight line from your lips to your ear. After that apply it to the top of your forehead. As light as possible. It must blend.

3. When you are done apply your highlighter with a foundation brush from the middle of your eyebrows straight down to the bottom of your chin.

4. The next part you going to highlight is the portion under your eyes in a C-shape. All the way under your eye to the end of your eye brow and down towards your nose.

So it looks a little like this picture below.

In the picture above they are using two shades of foundation and after that it is blended together.
I feel you can achieve the same look with a bit of high lighter and bronzer and is way easier and cost-effective.

5. The last step is to finish off with a finishing spray Once all your make-up is done. Don't forget to Sprits yourself. Avon has a great setting spray for oily skin. It really keeps everything on your face like you woke up like that. MAC also has one which I feel is more for dry skin like mine, it is so refreshing and just adds a bit of moisture to your skin and it keeps your make-up on.

I hope you enjoyed my little Do-It-Yourself guide and I hope you will try it and let me know how it went.
