Last week I was considering putting in some fake lashes and someone told me "your eye lashes are so long already-why do you need them?" and it made me think, is that the restriction? So I would only put in false lashes if there was something wrong with mine. Is that the mentality of society or of one person in general?
In todays world you can easily, and without much cost, put in a weave, get false nails either acrylic, gel or sculptured, get false eyelashes, go for implants on your butt or boobs, get some lypo done if you don't like dieting, get some laser for you stretch marks and cellulite and then there's cosmetic surgery....did I leave anything out? So are all those things done -ONLY if you need it? Do woman need all this to look and feel beautiful? I very much doubt it. So when do you know as a woman to draw the line? When is it when you look in the mirror and you are happy to say "NO MORE"?
I think that is a very personal question. We all suffer from our own insecurities and peer pressure to look good all the time. Especially in todays society of Social Media where we are so aware of what our peers and international stars are wearing and looking like, the pressure is insurmountable. Sometimes you look at your friends Facebook pictures and wonder why are you not wearing a bikini after two children, with no stretch marks and a flawless figure and Make-up on point!!! Then you have to stop your pity party cause you just don't have the time to oogle all day long and get lost in thought, and you return to the reality that you are not perfect and then console yourself with her flaws which might range from her being divorced twice or struggling financially, whatever rocks your boat!!!
What I am trying to say is that social media has made the competition to look good tough, to put it mildly. So you have to decide whether or not you will compete with the Jones's or will you be happy to park in the shade? But by parking in the shade it does not mean that you are in an unhappy place. It just means that you are happy with your "lot" whatever your lot is, and you still hold your head up high. You do your nails when it makes you happy, and if you don't wash your hair this week, there is always next week. It's a Relaxed state of mind.
I have learnt to accept myself whole-heartedly (except those kilos I picked up in December-I don't accept those kilos!!!lol) As much as I would like to keep a gorgeous outward appearance I don't succumb to anyone's perception of me being beautiful all the time. I cant be that person. I have other goals in life besides make-up and clothing. Being beautiful and looking great is important to me and its something which I enjoy but its not everything about me.
So in the war which is Real Vs Fake can you really pick a side? I don't think so. I think we all occasionally dabble in varying degrees so it would be unfair to label anyone. What we can do is change our mentality about it, and understand that we are all woman trying to be the best version of ourselves in a world where perfection is the norm on social media.
