So on Friday was Madiba day where it has now become custom to donate 67 minutes of your time helping others in order to grow the spirit of community and character amongst ourselves and others. This is an initiative that has changed South Africans completely in terms of their thinking and giving and has brought so much joy to the lives of the needy and poorer communities. It is so wonderful that even after Madibas death we are still upholding his legacy. Im sure he would be so proud of us all.
My 67 minutes I spent in the North West at a community care centre called Reboane Community Care Centre. They care for around 33 kids aged between 2 and 5. Most of the kids there no longer have their parents for various reasons so their guardians bring them in the morning and they spend the day there. The care centre provides meals and educational activities for the kids. The centre is just a house with no real facilities but those kids are soooo happy. The care centre was recently featured in the Soweton newspaper and Gift of the givers responded with toys and other donations towards the upkeep of the kids. It was said that they didnt even have toothbrushes or face cloths. ...
Let me tell you what these kids do have though. .. they have talent! I managed to spend some time playing with them and they are all so blessed. You can see who is going to be an engineer one day, whos going to be a manager, who will be a nurse. ..their little personalities are so full of hope and although right now things might not be so rosy, I am sure God has big things in store for them. It's only through struggle that you know success and its only through strife that you build character.
So that was my 67 minutes.
Now that we have done our 67minutes I think its only fitting that we honour those who have chosen professions in which they help people everyday. Like doctors, nurses, police men and woman to name a few...we only do 67 minutes but they dedicate their lives for others in need. They are the real heroes of our society and if you know anyone of them like I do (two of my cousins are nurses ) let them know how special they are cause truely this world will fall apart without them!
Hope you enjoyed the post!
Take care.
